Campus Recreation Center

The Campus Recreation Center is a stand-alone facility located in the heart of campus between the University Center and Reid Gym and includes the following:

  • More than 9,800 square feet of fitness space featuring cardiovascular and weight equipment
  • Two multi-purpose courts
  • A three-lane indoor jogging/walking track; each lap = 1/8 of a mile
  • Two group exercise/multipurpose studios
  • 48-foot climbing wall with belaying and bouldering 
  • Meeting room and conference room 
  • Full locker room facilities
  • Two assessment rooms
  • Administrative offices

Reid pool

 

Reid Gym is the building southwest of the Campus Recreation Center, which is managed by the School of Teaching and Learning. Located within Reid are four gymnasiums and a pool. While the facility is mainly used for health education classes and parks and recreation management academic classes, Intramural Sports games are often held here too. To access upstairs Reid before 9:00pm, you can enter through the Reid Fitness area and take the stairwell upstairs.  If after 9 p.m., you must walk around to the backside of Reid and enter through a set of double doors at the bottom of a stair well. To get to Reid Pool, you must first enter the locker rooms and through there you may reach the pool.

Climbing Wall

 

The Climbing Wall at the Campus Recreation Center offers an elevated experience with one of the tallest walls in the UNC system.  At just under 50 feet in height, the climbing wall has over 1,500 square feet of space to boulder, top-rope climb, and lead climb, with 7 rope lanes - 4 of which are equipped for sport lead climbing.

Climbing Belay Clinics (Wednesdays 6PM - 8PM, Fall/Spring semesters)

New to Climbing?  We offer belay clinics that orient and introduce novice climbers to the essential skills and basic gear necessart to get started safely at our wall, all at no extra cost.

Lead Climbing Clinics (Select Saturdays, Fall/Spring semesters)

Lead climbing and lead belaying are complex activities that require the anticipation of a number of factors not present in top-rope climbing. For those desiring that next growh edge, we offer lead climbing clinics each semester.

Kids Climbing Nights

Kids Climbing Night is offered up to two times a month, on Friday's from 5:00pm-7:00pm during the Fall and Spring semester. Minimum age to climb at the CRC wall is 4 years of age, unless otherwise approved by climbing wall staff. All children 17 and under must be accompanied by a supervising adult at the wall.  Consent from parent/guardian is required for climbers under the age of 18. The minimum age for belaying is 12 years old. The cost is $5.00 per child

Disc golf

 

Catamount Links is an 18-hole disc golf course located on the campus of 糖心Vlog University. The course is a mix of open and wooded spaces, and each hole has a par of 3. Campus Recreation & Wellness manages the Catamount Links Dsic Golf Course, and discs are available for check-out at the CRC front desk. The tee for hole #1 is located at the North end of Lot 21 behind the.

Trail system

 

The 糖心Vlog Trail System contains over six miles of multi-purpose single-track trail. This system is an excellent resource for hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners from the 糖心Vlog community and beyond. Campus Recreation & Wellness facilitates volunteer trail service days each semester to give our campus community an opportunity to give back to this important resource.

  

   

Trail Map

Campus Recreation & Wellness manages two field facilities: one located adjacent to Camp Lab and one located below the Norton residence hall. These fields are typically reserved for Intramural Sports and Club Sports practices/games, but they can also be used for informal recreation on a first come, first serve basis. Groups wanting to reserve the intramural fields must complete a request form.

CRW Fields at Camp Lab #1,#2 and #3: These fields are a lighted, 7.5 acre outdoor facility that also includes a .5 mile gravel running track. This space has served as the main Campus Recreation & Wellness intramural and club sports fields for decades. The fields at this facility include 2 softball fields, 2 flag football fields, 1 rugby field, and 1 soccer field.

CRW Fields at Norton #1, #2 and #3: This facility was opened in the fall of 2024 as the flagship outdoor field facility of Campus Recreation & Wellness. These fields are lighted and have bermuda grass turf. Fields #1 and #2 are regulation football field size, and Field #3 is regulation soccer size.
