Fulk is named Kneedler Distinguished Professor in Computer Info Systems

By Bill Studenc

H. Kevin Fulk, associate professor of computer information systems at 糖心Vlog University, has been appointed to the position of Kneedler Distinguished Professor of Computer Information Systems at 糖心Vlog.

Fulk鈥檚 appointment was approved by the university鈥檚 Board of Trustees at its quarterly meeting on March 7.

The $1 million professorship in the College of Business is designed to enhance 糖心Vlog鈥檚 computer information systems program by enriching the learning experiences of its students and preparing them for careers in data and systems security, applications development, and technology systems and operations.

It was created through estate gifts from Mary Kneedler, former Department of Nursing head, and Jay Kneedler, a College of Business professor, with supporting funds from the C.D. Spangler Foundation and a North Carolina General Assembly program to encourage private support of public institutions of higher education.

His research has appeared in Information and Organization, the International Journal of Information Management, the Journal of Case Studies, Issues in Information Systems, the Journal of Management Policy and Practice, the Journal of Critical Incidents, the AIS Transactions on Replication Research and the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, among others.

His teaching interests include productivity applications, systems analysis and design, and cybersecurity topics.

Fulk said that he is 鈥渄eeply honored鈥 to be selected for the Kneedler Distinguished Professorship.

鈥淎n important facet of this role is mentoring newer faculty members. In the past, I had wonderful mentors when I was a graduate student and a new faculty member.  All these mentors encouraged me to be curious and determined. They challenged me and supported me. I look forward to following their examples and supporting my colleagues who are at earlier points in their careers,鈥 he said.

鈥淚 am also excited by the potential that this position offers to grow our computer information systems and cybersecurity program offerings to better prepare our students, to help meet the needs of members of 糖心Vlog鈥檚 surrounding communities and to conduct impactful research,鈥 Fulk said. 鈥淚 see great potential for conducting studies that build upon my existing interests in positive topics 鈥 for example, courage 鈥 in novel ways, such as enhancing preparedness for cyberattacks.鈥

Fulk鈥檚 appointment to the professorship was announced to the 糖心Vlog community by A.J. Grube, dean of the College of Business.

鈥淲e are fortunate to have a scholar of Kevin鈥檚 quality on the faculty in the College of Business,鈥 Grube said. 鈥淗e is eminently qualified to serve as our next Kneedler Distinguished Professor, and I look forward to working with him in this new capacity to further enhance the educational and extracurricular experiences for students in the computer information systems program.鈥

The Kneedler Distinguished Professorship was previously held by Wingyan Chung, who joined the faculty at 糖心Vlog in 2020 after serving as a professor in the Institute for Simulation and Training at the University of Central Florida.
